What is Mead?
Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with yeast. In a normal sense it is not beer, wine or spirit; It is his own alcohol class and many people believe it is the oldest of alcoholic beverages. This drink has held a key place in many cultures in nearly 8,000 years and is still looking forward to it all over the world. Evidence of early versions was found in Egypt and on the island of Crete and was drunk in Greece throughout the golden age. In many early cultures, the goddess of bees held the central role in the Pantheon, and many of them assumed that it was due to the intoxicating effects of mead harvested from the local bee hives. Traditional mead is only produced by means of honey, water and yeast. Metheglin is produced in the same way as traditional, but different spices are added - such as cinnamon or vanilla. Melomel Mead is similar, but also has added fruit. Among the different types of melomel are those with mulberries known as morat ; with pears known as perry ; with an apple juice known as cySer ; and with grapes, known as pyment .
Mead has retained his place in many cultures until the introduction of wine. When the wine became a sign of wealth and prestige, instead began to turn to him. The peasant continued to enjoy Mead because it could be easily made of ingredients that they could get into the hands and do not require special storage. Over time, however, beer was replaced by ordinary citizens and Mead became a drink set for special occasions.
Many people follow the English word Honeymon into the practice of fathers who give their daughters enough mead to last the moon as a dowry. Drinking this drink during the first month of marriage was to ensure that the firstborn child was a man. Other holidays, such as Yule Festivals, also included drinks as part of the festivities.
Mead is still a regular part of the Ethiopian tradition, where it is known as tej . The Ethiopian Mead has a bark of plants called gesho to it, which gives it a somewhat hoppy taste and makes it similar to a similar beer known as Braggot . Ethiopian variety differs in the content and sweetness of alcohol, some of which are quite strong and others, such as the variety known as berz , has a low alcohol content.
