What is Monterey Jack cheese?

Monterey Jack cheese is a cheese that came along the coast of Central California and has since spread throughout the United States. It is one of the few cheeses that can rightly be called a "American" because it has been developed in the United States, although it certainly owes inspiration to European cheeses. There are two versions of Monterey Jack, fresh cheese and a version called Dry Jack, which tends to appear only in special stores. Variant, Sonoma Jack, comes from Sonoma County, California.

Although Monterey Jack is American cheese, it was developed before California entered the Union and in fact has a long and color history. Monterey Jack is also sometimes mixed with Colby, another fine American cheese to make Colby Jack. One of the most sought -after monterey jack varieties is Dry Jack, the old version of the cheese that is difficult to eatt outside California. Dry Jack gets a much more complicated and sharp taste and is hard enough to be grated and used as parmesan.

When searching for Monterey Jack cheese, look for a smooth, evenly color sample without a sample of cracking or coloring. Young cheese is somewhat irritated, so it should be used quickly. Dry jack is a more stable shelves when it can be obtained, and a unique cheese is worth experiencing if the opportunity introduced itself.
