What is the panel?
panel is a type of unrefined sugar that is extracted from sugar cane in Colombia. Although many countries around the world use unrefined sugar, the name "panel" is unique to Colombia and the surrounding areas. It is usually sold in hard, flat wheelers, it is cheap and easily accessible for most Colombians. It is mainly used in desserts and syrups, including a drink called Aguapanela , which is very popular in the region. UNDAFINED sugar is also one of the basic industries in Colombia, which is the second largest producer of unrefined whole cane sugar in the world behind India. Commercially the process begins with sugar cane harvest, which is then crushed to extract the juice from the stems. The juice is cleaned and heated while the ingredients are added to cause certain dirt to be removed. As a cleaned suggestion of Rcane, it is heated to the concentrated form. This concentrate is mixed until it begins to crystallize and is then ready for the package, where he solidifies to his final state like a panel.
The method used by local farmers is much basic. Farmers use mills to extraction of liquid from sugar cane. They stress it by hand and then pour them into large containers. Instead of heating the liquid, it can slowly condense with natural evaporation. The final product is then packed and sold, sometimes they carry an organic designation.
hard blocks of panels are usually grated into a rough powder that can be used to produce the popular Aguapanela drink. It is a mixture of water and unrefined sugar that heats up until the sugar has completely dissolved. The panel gives a very dark coffee similar to the color of sweetened water. Lemon or lime can be common to drink, but pieces of cheese can also be dropped when hot. Adding cloves or powdered cloves and cinnamon rods turns aguapanel to another popular drink known as melado.
In salt cooking, the panel can be used for an attachment called Mazamorra . It is a bowl of corn, which was cooked in a porridge. Along with the milk, the panel is added to the porridge to sweeten it. Mazamorra can be administered as a side dish or as a midday snack.
