What is Pitha?

Pitha or Pithe , as written in most Bengal dialects, is a wide category of cakes and breads popular throughout India and Bangladesh. Most Pitha are small dumplings or biscuits similar to refreshments traditionally made of rice flour and full of any number of vegetables, sweetened nuts or spices. Some varieties are reserved for cultural or religious festivals, although it is in a certain year in home and restaurants throughout Bangladesh and in the North Indian.

There is no single Pitha recipe, because the term is more like a category than a specific food, because many different varieties of cakes are included in the name. Rice flour is the most common base, but wheat flour or corn flour can also be used. Most of them are sweet, but not all of them. The ingredients are usually things that are seasonally available or personally pleasant for cooks, resulting in an adaptable number of Indian desserts.
