Spekkoek is a thick root cake made in many layers. It is the most common dessert served in the Netherlands and Indonesia. The cake is usually reserved for special occasions, because the process of creating layers is time -consuming and demanding to work.
History suggests that specimen has been developed by Dutch colonists in Indonesia and East India. The cake was an adaptation of Dutch baking using native spices from the area. This may be related to the German Baumkuchen or the Hungarian Torte, which are both cakes containing many layers.
The term species is literally translated as a pork abdomen - or bacon - a cake, a name derived from the appearance of dark and light layers. Its Indonesian name is Lapis legitimate or layer cake. English translation is often administered as a thousand layer cake or a thousand layer of spices. In some parts of Indonesia, the cake is known as Spike.
Lapis legitim contains several different spices, usually hunging cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and cloves.It can also contain ginger or anise, and sometimes the breaking is also used vanilla extract.
