What is Surimi?

Surimi is an edible paste made of processed meat or seafood. The most common example is the imitation of crab meat, which is made of fine white fish such as cod or Pollack. This process is also used to produce beef, pork and poultry products. Surimi products are used as low -fat meat alternatives or as economic protein sources. They are often artificially flavored, formed and colored to resemble other meat and seafood. The Japanese word "Surimi" means "minced meat". In Chinese, it is called "Yu Jiāng", which means "fish puree". The largest producers Surimi are now the United States, Japan and Thailand. Surimi is also produced in China, Vietnam and Malaysia.

To become Surimi, meat or fish is cleaned, debored and ground to a fine paste. Excess water is removed and the paste is frozen. The paste is then partially thawed audience along with aros substances such as sugar, monosodium glutamate (MSG) and natural or artificial chuting. Other ingredients such as starch, vegetable oil and egg whites can be added for texture and sorbitol as a preservative.

In Japan, there are hundreds of Surimi -based products on the market. In addition to imitating crab meat, fish products include pink and white fish cakes known as pity, fish squares known as Hanpen and a tube -shaped product called Chikowa. Sardines are used to make fish balls called Tsumire. Chicken Surimi is shaped into balls called tsukuna, which are dirt and grilled with Teriyaki sauce.

Surimi is used in many international cuisines. In China, beef or pork Surimi is shaped into a massH soups for soups and pork Surimi are also used to make Chinese dumplings called Yèn Mrs. In Vietnam, Pork or Beef Balls, they can be used as a ingredient for soup known as phở and in other Southeast Asia countries various products are served by Surimi cooked, stewed or fried. In the US, this process is used to produce frozen fish bars and salmon. It can also be used to produce healthy alternative Turkish products such as bacon, sausages and hamburgers.
