What is Tapas?
Many people who read Foodie magazines or looked at a travel show may have heard of Tapas, but did not follow when they found out exactly what they were. Spanish origin is "small meals", which means that foods of refreshments were to be consumed among meals. They are still very popular in Spain and Tapas bars are also in the US.
Tapas history is old. It probably comes from the Middle Ages, when field workers would take small food to the fields to be consumed when they worked or at a short break. Olives, bread and cheese, perhaps with a small slice of ham or other meat, often contained this small food.
