What is vitamin B3 deficiency?

In medicine, vitamin B3 deficiency is a nutritional deficiency of vitamin B3, which is also called niacin. Symptoms of vitamin B3 deficiency may include nausea, lesions of skin and mouth, anemia, headaches and fatigue. The left untreated, chronic vitamin B3 deficiency can lead to a disease called pellagra. Other symptoms include inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes, stomach problems and depression or other mental problems. Chronic deficiency of vitamin B3 and Pellagra are most common in people with poor diet, especially in the areas of South America, where many people have a diet consisting mainly of corn. While maize contains niacin, it is not present in a form that is easily absorbed by the body if the corn is treated with lime before milling. Another group of people at risk of niacin is long -term alcoholics, where the pellagra is most commonly observed in rich societies. In addition, niacin plays an essential role in maintaining deoxyribosic nucleic acid (DNA) in living cells deoxyribosis nucage acids. This suggests that niacin can play a role in preventing DNA and cancer damage.

Treatment of vitamin B3 deficiency is usually simple. In a healthy adult, if sufficient protein is consumed, vitamin B3 is usually present in abundant supplies. Vitamin B3 can be absorbed directly from protein sources or can be produced in the liver of amino acid tryptophan.

Some good diet sources of tryptophan and niacin include red meat, milk, eggs, nuts and legumes. Because niacin is a stable, it is usually not destroyed by cooking. Vitamin food supplements can be taken to increase niacin intake, but supplementation is usually not necessary if a normal and diverse diet is consumed.

In addition to specific vitamin B3 deficiency syndromes, niacin deficiency may also be observed in pandemic deficiency, a condition where there is insufficient body in the bodyKem five key vitamins. These key vitamins are niacin, thiamine, vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin D. Both pandemic deficiency and vitamin B3 deficiency usually occur in regions where there are extensive conditions of poverty and malnutrition.
