What is Picadillo?
Picadillo is an easily prepared and spicy minced meat bowl that is popular in Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican and Philippine cuisine. The name Picadillo comes from the verb Picar, which means that in Spanish is struggling with small pieces. Basic ingredients include minced meat, tomatoes and onions, but each country has its own version with various other ingredients. It is usually served with rice or warm tortillas. It is also often used as a filling for tacos, empanadas or wraps.
The Mexican version of Picadillo is a common food in most families. Lime juice is often added to a mixture of ground beef and onion when it turns brown. Sugar or honey is usually added, as well as chilli peppers and Mexican spices, causing sweet and spicy food, which is usually served with tortillas and beans. It can also be used as a type of Mexican stew.
In Cuba, a bowl calls to add potatoes, olives, kapars and raisins. The meat is usually roasted in olive oil and wine. TraditionalPicadillo is served with black beans and rice. People in the Dominican Republic often add chili peppers, olives, raisins, vinegar and eggs cooked hard.
Puerto Rico sometimes adds ham, cheese, raisins and olives to the basic mixture of meat and tomatoes. The Mzero is brown in olive oil or sometimes annatto oil, which is made of Achiote seed. Achiote seeds are often used in Latin American cuisine to flavor and color. Puerto Ricans usually use Picadillo as a filling for empanads or licking.
Philipinos usually adds potatoes or chayote to the ground mixture of beef and tomatoes. Chayote is a plant of a family of gourmets that produces squash as a vegetable that is consumed either cooked or raw. Sometimes carrots, spinach or other vegetables are added, as well as fish sauce.

Composition:
- 1 pounds of ground beef (ground turkeys can be replaced)
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 4 oz. can chopped green chillies
- 1 28 oz can cut tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic, ground
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- salt and pepper as needed
You want to prepare food, brown the minced meat. Add the chopped onions, garlic and green canis. Cook five minutes. Add tomatoes and spices. Cook for 20 minutes and serve with rice or as a taco filling.
