What is the red gooseberry?

Red gooseberry is fruit of shrub similar to currants and is used in cracks, jams, jelly, wines, sauces and cakes. Fruit fluctuations mean that it does not generally fit raw, although in many recipes it can be added or used instead of similar berries. The fruit bush varies in color, but may include green, pink, purple or red. Special varieties of gooseberry shrubs are responsible for creating red gooseberries. Half cup (about 88 grams) of raw or canned red gooseberry contains 35 calories, 3 grams of fiber and 1 gram of protein. They are fat -free and sodium -free and contain vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron. Most commercially grown gooseberries are grown in New Zealand and the United States, although it is rare to find them on local markets for a short vegetation period and commercial production.

In the United States and Canada, six common varieties of gooseberry grow,All produce red shades of fruit, with the exception of the Oregon champion. Clark, Fredonia, Pixwell, Poorman and Welcome are varieties of red gooseberries available to house growers. The berries move in size from small as blueberry to larger berries of cherry tomatoes. Mature berries are solid and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. As gooseberry ripens more, it changes color from light red to dark wine color and begin to soften.

red gooseberry fruits can be eaten raw, but they are very cake and most people prefer cooking. Smaller gooseberries are better for cooking because larger berries lose their taste when they are cooked. The stems and peaks are cut off before cooking, unless they are used after cooking puree and tense as when used for jelly, jams and some sauces. Raw gooseberries are used to make gooseberries or crumbs and chips and need not be prepaid. They can be used separately in dessert or combined with apples, pears or other fruit.
