What is Berber?

When introducing a mixture of spices famous for courageous flavors, Ethiopian cuisine may not immediately mind. Berber, the Zesty Hodgepodge Ethiopian spices, is one of the strictest mixtures of herbs used in cooking. Although the ingredients used in the mixture may differ, they usually include cloves, rue berries, ginger, spices, chili peppers, coriander and ajwain.

also known as a paste of red pepper or spice, Berber is usually prepared as a rubber composite. Depending on the chef or kitchen, Berber's individual recipes may be completely different. Some chefs prefer whistling in a mixture of spices. Others can add sea salt, cumin, nutmeg, black pepper, turmeric, thyme or cardamom. Two less commonly used ingredients include long pepper and Aframomum correction.

When frying food, Ethiopian chefs often rely on a root coating. This coating is usually made of Berber paste. Medium and African chefs are strongly relying on this spice on food, such as roasted Tibs or marinated kitfo. Breaks, such as Pancakes Chechebsa, can be prepared with a paste. Butter and other cooking ingredients can also be flavored with a mixture of spices.

This special herbal mixture is considered to be similar to Indian spices known as Masala. The spice used in Masale extends from garlic and onion to cloves and ginger. Like Berber, Masala differs according to the chef and the kitchen, depending on what is being produced and the preference of the chef.

Another similar spicy mixture similar to Berber is known as miTmita. These exotic mixtains of some of the typical Berber ingredients such as chilli peppers and ginger. Burned orange powder also often contains spices such as cloves, cumin, cardamom seed, cinnamon and salt. Spices are often used to add taste to beans, beef and other foods.

In addition to Ethiopia, the mixture is also strongly used in Eritrei. Earth pancakes usually require ingredients. The mixture also uses spicy vegetable meals like Tsebhi Birsen and chicken foods such as Tsebhi Dero.

In order to become Berber, the herbs desired above low heat slightly roasted. Once it has cooled, crush the mixed herbs. Store in an airtight container in a cool and dry place.
