What is Rawon?
Rawon is Javanese Black Beef Soup, which originates in Surabaya, one of the provinces in East Java, Indonesia. This aromatic, richly flavored soup is one of the traditional Indonesia meals and is usually served through rice or glass noodles. The main spice in this dish is Kelaak, a black walnut, which is the seed of the fruit of the Kepayang tree, which is located in the area.
